Abstract
This research was performed to measure the ventilatory capacity of 125 refining workers who were classified into two groups according to their works: 81 refining workers exposed to dust as an exposure group, and 44 office workers as a control group. In order to examine the evaluation of refining workers¢¥ ventilatory function according to the period of exposure to dust, this research had been done for 10 days from Jure 10, 1982. The results were as follows:
1. Between the exposure group and the control one, there were no significant differences in mean age, height, weight, years of employment and smoking-experience.
2. The mean values of FEV,.o% (FEV1,o observed/FEV1,o predicted) FEVR %(%FEV observed/% FEV predicted) and MMEF% (MMEF obsered/MMEF predicted) of the refining workers were lower than those of the control group.
3.There was a tendency that the older the workers were, the lower the mean values of ventilatory function were ,FVC%, FEV1,o% FEVR % and MMEF %), But statistically no significant differences was found.
4. Between the smokers and the non-smokers of refining workers, there were no significant differences in the mean values of the four indices (FVC %, FEV,1.o%, FEVR % and MMEF .
5. The years of carrer were significantly associated with the decrease of FEV1.0% FEVR % and MMEF % values, but not with of FVC % value.
